Keeping up with scheduling news nationwide, I'm seeing several non-MTE neutral site games between P5 teams. The purist wants to see these played as home/homes, but these deals actually give a better chance at the game being a Q1 outcome for both the winner and loser. Wake Forest and Michigan are further loopholing the system by playing Home-home/neutral hybrid. They'll play each other this year in Greensboro with a return to Detroit next year. Both games will count as neutral site. That needs to be changed.

Interesting that Elliot is wearing #6. Is he the first Bobcat that worn a non-basketball number?

I believe so. Nicol switched from #5 to #7 which is also non-traditional. He was #5 last year which now belongs to Ayden Evans

Annual petition to make #5 a dedicated special number for all of Ohio athletics. A lot of great athletes have worn it in basketball and football.

His is one of the few computer rankings that tries to count the effect of individual players. He doesn't have Shareef Mitchell. But I am sure that there are players missing from the other teams as well.

Meanwhile, North Dakota is hosting Alabama.

I mean, it's obviously a homecoming for Grant Nelson, but still.

Surprised we haven’t seen anything on the Myrtle Beach Invitational.

Previous fields were released in early May. Someone on Twitter claims Bradley is in it.
I did see where Wichita State didn't announce they were in 2023 Myrtle Beach field until August 3rd last year.
I looked this up. The bracket was announced in August. Participating teams were announced in April/May. Wichita specifically April 7th.

You’d think they’d want to give fans as much time as possible to plan. Starting to wonder if the event is even taking place this year. None of the socials or website have provided any 2024 info.

Love this. Completely different team than last year with the coaching change, but I still expect James Madison to be a Sun Belt favorite.

JMU got AJ Smith (Southern Indiana) out of the portal who we were connected to, along with Noah Williams from Wazzou (10ppg), Justin Taylor from Syracuse (5ppg), Eddie Ricks from Morehead who followed the coach (8ppg, 5rpg), Luke Anderson, D2 All-American who started career at South Florida/Iowa State, and a Georgia Tech and Texas A&M transfer who both saw minimal PT.

Great game to start the season.

These are the games (JMU) we need on the schedule. Now, let’s sprinkle in at least one game against a top-25 team, two more games against top 100 teams and a 3 game destination tourney.

I see how Ohio is No. 1, based on returning minutes, which I agree should be a weighted positive criteria.

But curious to see Kent at No. 2 with their list of rather non-descript transfers IMO ranked as the No. 3 transfer list in the league in projected minutes (1 BSU, 2 EMU) even over Akron, although by just a tad. The head scratcher continues when this metric ranks Kent as a 0 (last) in MAC talent while No. 3 Akron is No. 1 in talent by a wide margin over the rest of the league.
Finally, Kent is ranked No.1 in returning experience, which again is a head scratcher considering the grads AND transfers they had.

Myrtle Beach field — 6/8 teams. Bradley, Middle Tennessee (can’t get away from these guys), Portland, South Florida, Princeton, Ohio.

Gotta think the final two spots include at least another P6/P5 school. It’d be cool to get a top MWC and SoCon school.

South Florida is probably the favorite first glance without knowing the remaining two, but Xavian Lee also withdrew from the draft to return to Princeton.

I just hope we don’t draw Middle Tennessee after seeing it in Nassau.

MTSU and Western Kentucky would be in the MAC right now if MTSU hadn't screwed it up. They deserve a butt-kicking from any MAC team they play in any sport.

MTSU just isn’t very good, so I hope we get matched with Princeton/South Florida/Bradley or one of the final two teams pending who is added.

Eesh that's rough. How did KState get roped into that?

Hopefully this means any tournament that Ohio is in will be announced soon.

A few of these tournaments have some P5 outliers.

Cayman Islands field is Boise, Duquesne, Hampton, High Point, Missouri State, Old Dominion, South Dakota State, and Boston College. BC isn't KState, but makes you wonder how it landed in a field of mid-majors.

The same can be said about South Florida in our Myrtle Beach field.

All said it wouldn't be surprising to see McNeese win the Paradise Jam.

I see what you mean now...I wasn't being a smart ass. I just wasn't sure if you knew it was speculated and reported on twitter by some well respected hoops writers that Ohio was in the Myrtle Beach Invitational....that's all. I have zero insight info or knowledge on anything schedule related that isn't already out there.

Non-conference starting to take shape. I’m assuming Austin Peay comes to Athens, so that gives us 2 home games right now with it and 2nd SBC/MAC game. So far, the schedule is road heavy if you count Myrtle Beach. Get a P5 game on this and that has to be it on the road.
