Having seen a number of the earlier games, one thing has become obvious. And I’ve talked about it all year. Boals & Co have gotta get out there and recruit shooters. But then again not just shooters but makers. All five positions have to be able to shoot the ball nowadays and we are lucky if we had one this year.

He can have all the "makers" you want but if he doesn't run an offense with ball movement and get guys who also hustle on D and work together then all the "makers" in the world mean nothing.

I miss the days of having at least one shooter on the floor that was feared and respected. I'm thinking Freeman/Dartis/Kellogg level stuff. I'd gladly settle for a borderline starter/bench guy like Travis Wilkins right now.

I would follow along the portal prospects thread. Although lower levels, the commonality of current targets is high shooting %’s, specifically 3PT.

With so many spots to fill, I imagine we’ll see a blend of levels added. Nonetheless, it’s encouraging to see shooters being targeted early on.

Newsflash… It does not start with ball movement. You can move the ball all you want. In this day and age you have to have shooters that are makers first and then have them move the ball to the open player. It starts with makers.

John Rhodes got a lot of quotes.

Talking to guards/wings

"I'm not recruiting shooters, I need makers" and "world's got a lot of shooters, Son,be a maker"

Talking to bigs
"A missed shot is just a pass to the front of the rim"

I love that guy and his wisdom.

Have to disagree on this one. Miami moved the ball on Wednesday and their shooters shot and made. Miami did not move the ball nearly as effectively last night (very few if any diagonal passes like Wednesday) and even though they shot, there were few makes.

The same applies in volleyball. You can have the best hitters in the game but without a good pass to the setter and then a good set, hitters can't shine. It all starts with the pass.

Diagonal passes come from penetration. Tennessee was too long and athletic and Miami couldn't consistently beat their man to collapse the defense and create secondary passes in the offense. We had the exact same issue against Tennessee in the tournament once upon a time.

Exactly hence shooters had little chance to be a maker. As good as Elmer was on Wednesday night, he was an absolutely frustrated mess yesterday. A season long 43% three point shooter went 0 for 7 with at least three of those never touching iron.

If I didnt know better, I'd think the point of this here game we like to call basketball is to put the little round ball IN the peach basket. And to do that more times than the other guys.

Not only was Tennessee long but Barnes preaches a very physical game. Miami's cutting was blown up, screens fought through and muscled over so the back cuts, slips and mis directions were not there. Regardless of the pass which was definitely not available for a team that had moved the ball well all year.... very few teams had as many weapons as Miami this year. That was a bad match up for them. Apart from Suder they really did ot have anybody who could match physically what the exceptional Strength Coach from UT has created.

Guys, the difference was Miami wasn’t playing a MidAmerican conference team. The SEC guys were just so much more athletic and physicalthan Miami was. That made it a no contest.

Miami would have matched up better with other SEC teams. Against Tennessee you had one of the best 3-point shooting teams in the nation against the #1 3-point shooting defense in country.

Not to be argumentative (I would never, right?) but did you see Ole Miss who was 4-14 in the SEC cause havoc in the SEC tourney? Even the team that finished 4-14 in the SEC would have seriously mopped the floor with fiami. They have a 6-10/250 forward named Malik Dia that would have had a career day. Yes, UT was an elite defensive and rebounding team until they ran into Michigan who might just win it all.
