You didn't call "BS" -- you introduced the idea being discussed by stating that "people" thought that D2 players will always be effective roleplayers in the MAC. And that they thought that about Reese.

FJC didn't happen to remember the single, individual post where somebody predicted Reese would play. Because he was thinking about the literal thousands of posts about this past season where Reese was never mentioned and how nobody suggested Reese be part of the rotation, or opined on why he wasn't getting minutes.

You've made up a narrative to argue against because whenever you engage directly with people you look/sound like an idiot. It's why you ran off on your exile and came back with a new name. And it's also why it took all of a week for everybody to realize exactly who you were under the new name.

Because you post the same 3 ideas over and over and are so insanely sensitive that when somebody disagrees with you, you obsess over it for years.

I look forward to revisiting this interaction in 4 years when you bring it back up for no reason at all.

Sir, do you hear yourself? No one is shitposting at such a high clip as you. There is quite clearly only one person so easily bent out of shape about everything. No one else is remotely bothered by your nonsensical ramblings.

Despite constantly stumbling over yourself, you're hung up on this bizarre D2 rage... you were embarrassed by much smarter posters, and thats okay! But since you get bent out of shape so easily, instead of just taking it on the chin, you dug through the archives to find literally *one* person daring to suggest optimism for a guy who shot nearly 40% from 3 and using that to refute any and all players of similar ilk.

LOL

I mean, good lord man.

Noone needs that link and a friend more than you.

It's sadder than that, man. He didn't dig through the archives. He posted this whole rant specifically because last year someone made a point he disagreed with. Back when he was greencat, he'd do the same, and make reference to a post about "track athletes" from a decade ago. He did that very regularly. One post a decade ago, and he's still spinning out about it.

It's obsessive and sad.

Did a little bit more digging on the current state of the transfer portal and the contact and follows being made by the coaching staff. Throughout the year, I’ve seen plenty of articles outlining changes that were going to be implemented to the transfer portal starting this offseason. What were these changes?

LATER PORTAL WINDOW:
In 2025, the D1 transfer portal opened the Monday after the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament. In 2026, the portal does not open until the Tuesday after the National Championship game, a full two weeks later. This means that guys like Ayden Evans, Elijah Elliott, and Jordan Fisher aren’t yet officially in the portal; they’ve just announced their “intent” to enter. Because they aren’t in the portal, coaches aren’t allowed to make them formal offers yet, just like how our coaching staff isn’t allowed to directly contact players just because they’ve announced their intent to go portaling. The “follow on social media” thing we see and track is a loophole to this. Coaches can follow players, but they aren’t allowed to contact them in any way outside of that until the portal actually opens.

SHORTER PORTAL WINDOW:
In 2024, the portal stayed open for 45 days. In 2025, it was 30 days. In 2026, there are only 15 days for players to enter the portal after it opens.

FIRED COACHES:
Previously, if a team were to not make the MAC tournament and the coach got fired, players could enter the portal immediately. If that happened pre-conference tournament in 2025, any player on that team could enter the portal before it opened for everyone else after the first week of the NCAAT. In 2026, this was changed so those players now have to wait to enter the portal with everyone else in D1. There is no more early entry.

-----------------------------------------

If it feels like things are moving slower this year with the recruiting process, it’s because they are, and it’s because of these new rules. So why the D2 and NAIA contacts? It’s because NCAA D2 and D3 have completely different transfer rules, and NAIA is separate altogether. I would break the current transfer portal landscape into the following three groups:

- NCAA D1:
Nobody, even those whose coaches were fired post-Jan. 1, can officially enter the portal and be recruited until April 7th. Players can announce their “intent” to transfer, and other coaches can follow them on social media, but no actual recruiting can happen until that date. Are there coaches breaking those rules? Definitely, but that’s a conversation for another day.

- NCAA D2/D3:
As far as I can find, there is no restricted transfer portal window for NCAA D2/D3. This means players in the lower NCAA divisions can enter their names into the transfer portal whenever they want. The only real restriction is that to play for another NCAA program, they do have to officially enter their name into the portal. A D2 guy could quit on his team in the middle of January, and D1 coaches could start recruiting him. That example is likely extreme, but there aren’t nearly the same rules for these players that there are for players on D1 rosters.

- JUCO/NAIA:
These two aren’t governed by the NCAA, and there isn’t really an official transfer portal for them to enter. NAIA guys can request a “Permission to Contact” letter from their AD at any time, and D1 coaches can then openly recruit them. JUCO guys have even less restriction of movement. They can’t transfer and play mid-year, but outside of that, they can largely be recruited at any time with little to no restrictions.

-----------------------------------------

So where do we stand today (March 30th)? The only players the coaching staff can actively reach out to and recruit are those who are either NCAA D2, NCAA D3, NAIA, or JUCO. Until April 7th, it will likely continue to be quiet, and the only confirmed recruiting efforts will be targeted at lower-level guys. The names you see popping up aren’t because the coaching staff is incompetent; it’s because it’s the only thing they can do right now by the rules, other than maybe follow some D1 guys on social media. Once that portal date comes, we’ll likely see a lot of movement very quickly.

Hope this helps clear up some confusion on the board.

While all true, between now and April 7th, is similar to NFL legal tampering period with the 7th being the start of “league year”. D1 portal players and coaches are all talking behind the scenes while lining up offers.

Expect a ton of commitment announcements that day. Mike Cifliku even made a joke about social media platforms crashing on April 7th.

Boals has started following yesterday’s portal entrant Brady Dunlap of SLU. 6’7, spent two years at St. Johns before. Has averaged between 13-17mpg across three seasons with a handful of starts.

45% from 3 with in 113 attempts this past season. Wonder if he can be sold on being a starter or if he’ll continue to be a specialist at the P6 level.

Perhaps Reese should have gotten meaningful minutes. Perhaps, and maybe I'm crazy, but Boals is a terrible evaluator of talent and an even worse developer of skilled, team-oriented players? Carter Reese and Jordan Fisher should have played at some point this season. Boals' big ego couldn't handle it.

Just add to this for example, Kyler D'Augustino has taken an official visit according to a contact close with program. Sounds like priority #1.

Adding to what he said -- "weird chatter" about Devin Royal. Unsure he's realistic or what that means.

There are 2 D2 guys -- a big and a wing that have also visited/in works.

Boals pulling a rabbit out of his hat with Royal would be pretty wild, but isn't crazy.

Heres some video of Jake Diebler talking about how much Boals means to him and the impact he had on his career:

This is all very helpful context. I have never worked in college basketball and don’t have any close connects in the program so my deep dive was strictly trying to find what the actual rules are. Can imagine that there are plenty of conversations with agents and ways to work around that. I started to get a little antsy myself because there hasn’t been as much early activity relative to years past.

Played only 8 games last year due to an injury. Averaged a little over 20 mpg during that stretch, but played really well - 31 assists in 8 games is damn good.
We need two ball handlers.

The Royal name drop surprised me. Back-to-back seasons of averaging 14ppg at the P5 level. He's a proven commodity. Unless he just flat out wants to stick as close to home as possible.

For sure. It’s worth noting that both Simmons and Breath committed on April 7th last year.

Hypothetically speaking -- I'd be game for Jones as either a fallback for D'Augustino or a bench PG. My fear of adding both is Boals starting them together.

That is interesting because my fear is Boals coaching them at all. I was jealous that Dustin Ford is staying at Kron. Dude should have replaced Groce here. It really doesn't matter who Boals brings in. Unless those guys are team-first and already skilled, it won't matter because he has shown he can't handle egos and he isn't a developer of talent.
