I saw something about a mystery kid who played some juco ball out west who was actually kind of interesting. He's from Italy. 6-10/240 - i.e. a full grown young man. Averaged a dbl-dbl at 18/10. Not a 3-point shooter per se.

Maybe he could double as strengh coach:
https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRHP...

Kyler D’Augustino had 21 vs tOSU and 31 vs Wright State. (we can dream, right?)
Was at Wofford this past year but did not play. Why?

There's the mystery. I couldn't find anything about an injury, grades, anything.

Hope our staff is motivated enough to dig around and find out. More complicated than going an hour away and signing a bunch of kids from the same high school.

Boals has followed Kyler D’Augustino from U-Indy (3rd Team All-Horizon). He entered the portal about an hour ago. From Albany, OH. Did we offer out of HS? Kid had a really strong year - 19ppg while shooting 53% and 39% from 3.

Fun fact - Kyler played at D2’s West Liberty and averaged 17ppg before U-Indy. I don’t think there needs to be a narrative around D2 kids, the right ones will figure out. Just like any 4 star can flop at our level.

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/...
The offensive numbers are nice but I’m seeing 89 personal fouls this year… not exactly what we need. (Per ESPN so who knows if that’s true)

That’s a lot, Javan had just as many. The ability to put the ball in the basket efficiently is hard to come by. I’d like to think a player’s aggressiveness can be worked on to mitigate fouling.

Kylar’s scoring punch offsets it for me personally. In all four games he fouled out of this year, he still averaged nearly 20 points (19.25). So, at least he’s still effective in spite of it (haha).

That's 3.7 per 40 minutes. Not awful by any stretch.

I thought the same but Sheldon had less fouls and we complained about his defense. I want one of those fast guards who can defend, where are they at? lol

Here are some Kyler highlights -> https://x.com/at_hoop_edits/status/2035498042502123660?s=...

He plays physical, maybe he can still defend. About halfway through he lowers his shoulder into is defender, knocks him down, and makes the basket.

I’m sold. This is probably the closest to replacing Pavs’ offensive production as we can get—that’s a realistic target.

When our staff gets through with him he'll be drifting sideways and kicking out his legs on every shot. And using his invisible matador cape on D.

I do really like how he's able to finish through contact. I'm sold as well but I wish there was more on ball defensive film. I think having him, Kelly, Javan and a good C could really be dangerous.

D'Aug was hanging around the Convo an awful lot during the high school tournament games. I think he would be a great addition from an offensive standpoint. Knows how to score consistently and I don't see a lot of those guys on the roster for next year.

Would maybe get the locals excited about Bobcat basketball again with a local guy on the roster that actually will see the floor.

I'm 100% for him getting an offer.

Getting someone like Kyler D’Augustino on the team, if he were to become a starter, would definitely help in attracting the locals. Perhaps we could get back some of the 2,000 close relatives of Larry Hunter who have yet to come back to the Convo after his firing.

Probably need to hire extra ticket office people. I mean, when he was in HS, they had to rent the Convo to get their fans into their home games.

That being said, he’s one hell of an athlete and can definitely score. West Liberty has some damn good guards too.

I like Kyler's game but I fear he is a product of the style of play his coach prefers to play. They are VERY uptempo & I'm not sure how well his game will translate to the slower pace that we play or if he has the desire to play in a system like Boals puts out. But, after playing away for a few years, maybe he would like to be a little closer to home? He would be a nice addition regardless!

Boals has started following yesterday’s portal entrant Noah Cleveland of Illinois Wesleyan (D3). 6’8, First Team All-American. 19ppg, 11rpg, 2spg, and 2bpg

Moves pretty well -> https://x.com/zachcleve33/status/2036597220753973448?s=46...

His brother Zach was CUSA POY this season at Liberty.

Another new follow — Conrad Lucynzki from Lenoir-Rhyne (D2). 7’2 and averaged 13ppg, 7rpg, and 2.3bpg (4th in all of D2).

If we added someone with this skillset, my hope would be to start him alongside Javan and not be a one for one sub again.

We are showing interest in LA Pratt, 6-5, 180 wing from Northeastern. Originally from Columbus. Spent two years at Elon. 17 ppg last year before broken foot ended season early.

I have zero faith that we'll acquire anyone impactful in the portal. Hype and nothing more.

Gotta keep them eastern European surnames consistent over time on the Bobcat roster; Wiz, Pavs and Lucy...

A Pratt and D’Augustino backcourt could play. Pratt just isn’t a very strong 3PT shooter, but I like his size (6’5) at the 2. Especially if he can defend. We probably want a stronger shooter, and though; since Kelly isn’t one either.

Two more names Boals has followed

Dusan Makitan — international kid. Looks like he plays for some club in Bosnia. 6’8. Here’s are some highlights -> https://x.com/layup_scouting/status/2006581574855254416?s...

KJ Windham from Northwestern. 6’3 and only played about 15mpg over the last two seasons.

Wasn't Windham a walk-on at Northwestern?

That's cool. Dressing out as a sub in the BigTen or SEC = first team NAIA all-american.

Do you ever research anything before posting? He was the #2 player in Indiana and a 3 Star prospect. Was also offered by Richmond, Tulsa, Saint Louis, Southern Illinois, Rice, Sam Houston State, Appalachian State, Kent, Miami, Murray State.

I actually did see that on his 247 profile and would be fine with our staff tendering an offer to the kid. Grades shouldn't be a problem. That's for sure.

As that oil tanker squid-boy might say regarding getting portal transfers, it's not about the want, it's about the money.
