This late surge by Tech may be the knockout punch to the Zips. Akron has shown themselves pretty well in what I have seen. Scott and Lyles have been really good. Tech has really shut down Tavari Johnson (who I think should have been PoY over Suder).

Serves Santa Clara right for celebrating like they won the game with two seconds left.

Tech frosh Jaylen Petty is the best Petty I've seen since seeing Tom at the Akron Rubber Bowl with the Heartbreakers. Both very impressive.

I think serious consideration should be given to establishing a new word that would be used to describe when a team wins a conference championship and then proceeds to stink up the joint in their ncaa appearance:

‘kronin’

I kinda like it.

I kind of like it, too. Reminds me of when the dearly departed Monroe coined the term "knorred" for when a team lost a game because of what today on this board we refer to as "coaching malpractice."

Unfortunately, Akron's loss did not surprise me. I think Miami will fare better today. Miami plays some of the best team ball that I've ever seen. I never believed this season those who said Akron was the leagues best team. Not sure why everyone discounted that fact that the only time the two teams met, Miami was the victor.

Including the games in Cleveland, Zips won more MAC games than Fiami.

Where was that one game played?

Imagine if Groce had never left OHIO but had the same results as he has had at Akron. Would the BA faithful be calling for his head since he no longer has ANY NCAA magic?

Sure Akron lost another NCAA tourney game. Akron has won 100 conference games the last seven seasons. Akron overall win totals the last seven years are 29, 28, 24, 22, 24, (15 during the Covid season), and 24. The Bobcats have that tourney win during the Covid season when UVA couldn’t participate in the ACC tourney and practice before the first round game because of Covid restrictions. Give the Bobcats credit for that win, but circumstances were different during that Covid season when all league teams didn’t play the same amount of conference games. Ohio has 73 wins in the conference the last seven seasons. They have two seasons with 20 or more wins. Akron has been way better than the Bobcats the last seven years. Some folks dismiss the regular season accomplishments that Akron has achieved. Not only has Akron been better than Ohio, so has Kent and Toledo the last seven years. Throw in the RedHawks the last two seasons and Ohio is on average about the fifth best in the league. That matches the many fifth seeds they have earned the last seven years. Fans should be happy that the Bobcats got the upset victory over UVA during the Covid tournament season. However, they should not ignore the yearly fifth seed performances every season and the fact that Akron is a much better program the last seven years.

Thanks for providing some backup details for my point. By the way, we’ve had four NCAA Tournament WINS since 2010.

Looks like Miami is gonna get whacked. Like we have said, Tennessee is pushing them off the three-point line and making them uncomfortable when they’re shooting. On the other hand, Tennessee is hitting their threes. Can I repeat? You’ve got to make threes and defend threes

But fiami held the 5th place SEC team to only 51 points in the first half.

Good thing they weren't playing Florida or Arkansas or one of those others. Florida would have 70 at the half.

Gillespie just stole the ball and hit another three. During halftime.

What is your point above? I think Miami won twice as many games as we did this year. 33-2 beats 15-17 any way you wanna look at it.

BTW, still waiting for your reply to the VCU - Ohio comparison in terms of recruiting that you incorrectly spouted off about.

fiami "fans" getting grief on social media over that standing ovation after a 20 point loss. They should have played Florida and lost by 50 in that case.

Felt the same about the Akron game. 5/19 from 3PT.

When Watts fouled out with just under 10 Akron cut it to 4. Really thought it had a chance. Unfortunately, it only score 7 points the rest of the way.

As for Miami—Tennessee is a brutal draw as a 6th seed. I think Tennessee rolls Virginia and even has a shot at the elite 8. I think people forget Tennessee started 7-0 beating Houston along the way. Louisville, UNC without Caleb Wilson, and BYU would have been better draws for Miami as other 6th seeds.

Yes three of those wins were with Groce, who is now tearing it up in Akron. Are you satisfied with yearly fifth seeds? Sure winning a game in the NCAA tourney is fantastic for a mid major. However shouldn’t fans expect more from the coach who was awarded top pay? The season consists of much more than an NCAA tournament game. The mediocre regular seasons shouldn’t be ignored. Akron has proven they are way better than Ohio the last seven years.

My comment (“Kroned”) was simply based on Akron’s lack of success in the NCAA tournament after getting there. It wasn’t an attempt to compare the relative successes of Groce vs Boals or even to say one is better than the other. However, at what point does a school who always loses on the big stage, usually by a lot, become the butt end of jokes? Even if the argument can be made they aren’t there yet, they’re getting close.

Boals is lucky in that regard. With 17 losses you don't sniff the big dance at all.

Both Akron and Miami are an embarrassment to the MAC, both mailing it in and losing by twenty. They didn’t play hard and didn’t want it bad enough. Couldn’t wait to get to Spring break. Both coaches, athletic directors and presidents should be fired and all the players enter the portal for D2 and D3. I’ll be the laughingstock at the local bar wearing my gear.

Akron played much better in the NCAA than they did in the their near-loss to Toledo in Cleveland. They just ran out of gas against a really good team in the NCAA.

fiami and Tennessee were both sleepwalking in most of the second half since the game was already decided. UT didn't even play Ament in the second half.

Very true. Anyone who thinks they were the same types of performances are basing it off the score and probably didn't watch the games. The Miami game was basically over 14-15 minutes into the game. Akron was still within 2 possessions with Tech with around 8 minutes to go in the game. It was very much still in doubt. Tech pulled away late. Tennessee was able to coast for the last 25 minutes of the Miami game.

Actually, I think he was just acting like some of you after every loss. Saying players quit, didn’t care, fire the coach, embarrassed to be an alum.

And IMO he’s pretty spot on for a lot of you.
