I'm not in full roster upheaval mode. We lose five guys anyway at least. Simmons ultimately is a positive on the roster. Kelly, Kuany, and Burris could become some great pieces in time. Burris' shoots with great confidence from the arc and mid range. He reminds me of Scott Thomas at BG like a decade+ ago. Guy always seemed to have a great game against us. Kuany's length and athleticism alone account for some scoring on their own but his defense has a way's to go. Three defensive blunders I can remember last night. Elliott gets a pass for his health, as does Mosley. Who knows with Fisher but we should make that offer every time. If Evans can't make a commitment to get up to like 230 pounds, I don't need him.
Love your optimism, but there is Kelly and then what? Everyone else is either a giant question mark or they will have to make a gigantic leap in improvement in the next seven months. The names listed here won’t lead Ohio to a top 7 finish in the conference.

And I would be stunned if Simmons is back in Athens next season. Stunned.

And Kelly is going to have his chance to move onto bigger and better.
Suder is a portal get, any of the top 8 MAC teams can instantly improve with no waiting a year for someone to play. Miami struck gold in this get. You put a Reef on OHIO's team this year and getting 24 minutes instead of Shelton and right there you have a much better team. Defense would be improved as would the number of steals and fast break baskets. Boals got him here, got Simmons here, he can get others in the years ahead.

If you put Sears and Preston and BVP on this year's team it would be pretty darn good. But what we have (with 3 seniors starting) is a .500 team with some horrific losses. That was .500 last season as well. It's like a trend or something. Like a trajectory.

So back to the land of reality...why are we not better in year 7 of Boals? He's automatically guaranteed to get the next Suder because fiami got Suder?? Or is he going to get another Jalen Breath who can't make a layup 2 feet from the rim?

On the other hand, look at Murray State in the middle of nowhere in a town half the size of Athens. Murray State kept ZERO players from last season. New head coach Ryan Miller completely started over, bringing in 13 new faces. Right now they are beating Belmont by double digits on ESPN-2 which would be their 20th win.

A new broom sweeps clean. That's what my uncle from the old country said.

Talent evaluation and recruiting have been abject failures. This roster is the Island of Misfit Toys. Akron, KSU, Miami and Toledo coaches must laugh their asses off every signing day.
Here is what is hard to understand.

This kid is shooting 48% from three and 97% at the FT line.

He has 31 assists to 20 turnovers.

Why would we not recruit him?

https://www.wsccathletics.com/sports/mbkb/2025-26/bios/we...

There are guys like this all over the place...we're just not getting them.

His juco team is 22-1. Maybe why he doesn't start. He would start right now for half the teams in the MAC though.
Interesting.

LOoking at the list of guys who moved on and where they went

Does not exactly give me great confidence that anyone playing there would be an automatic Starter in the MAC. He may be the outlier. Going back to the 80s there are a few EKUs, Evansvilles and a BUGS signee but most are very low to low mids.

The two most recent listed were MTSU and Bowling Green State

our last game vs MTSU = loss
our last game vs BGSU = loss

Hey, there are tons of juco programs in Florida with great players...get one there. There are tons of international players. Get some. There is no excuse for crappy recruiting unless somebody is dropping the ball.

And even though it looks like Murray won't hang on for the win tonight, they will still end up with 20-something wins this season with NO returning players. None. Zero. Zilch. While Boals is struggling to get across the finish line at .500 again.

**Murray did beat Akron by 15 this season

Just to make sure we are comparing apples to apples...this year in the MAC...
The Bobcats are #11 in defense and #8 in offense. Source: MAC website

FYI: That was the slogan of the Progressive Party in 1912 when TR was running for president.
