And, it looks like Kelly may be out for awhile. He's our one promising upwardly mobile player. Woe is us!
If he's done for the year, it might be the only saving grace that keeps him in a Bobcat uniform next season.
Have no clue why he would want to stick around for this shitcapade, which will turn into a lame duck last season in 2026-2027 for Boals. Teams won’t get scared away by a high ankle sprain with seven months to recover.
I think that's why we are likely to see an actual firing. I know that we don't often fire a coach when there is a buyout involved, but the circumstances this year seem to me to indicate an exception is in order. Slade may have to a little creative fundraising, but I just don't see him letting this opportunity to bring in his own many slide. As always, I could be wrong, especially if we beat Miami twice!
This university will not dismiss Coach Boals after this season. The former AD didn’t dismiss Bob Bolden after four non winning seasons and three seasons were flat out horrible. Boals will be back next season with his high priced salary thanks to the former AD who is no longer in Athens.
Mrs. Albin, please give your husband some emotional support after his stellar 1-11 record this year at UNCC. He had a nice 0-8 record in conference and was last in the league. I assume he will get a big raise next year after all his accomplishments.
Hilarious Mid 70s! Are you a cousin to the former female AD? You are like a few others and must have a memory problem. I have mentioned many times that I am not related to Coach Albin, just a fan who appreciated unprecedented success that this football program achieved under his watch. And hey, I understand that you want to continue to support the former female AD since she is related to you. It is shame that you and a few others along with the former AD didn’t appreciate what this program accomplished under Albin. Feel free to get back to me in a few years when you see that type of success again.

At this point, the only people regretting the Albins' adventure in Charlotte are the Albins themselves. Dumbest negotiators ever. I wanna play poker with Tim.

If you almost get into a brawl with every team you play, you are the assholes.

I’ve never seen a more mediocre team act like playground bullies. You’d think they were the 1989 Pistons if you watched them between whistles.
The most unlikeable Ohio basketball team I have ever watched in my lifetime.
This.

Listen I like Coach Boals. Know him well. He's a great guy and a good coach. I don't want him fired, nor do I think it's at that point (yet). Cleveland hasn't happened yet (the only thing that matters). And even if we disappoint there this year (likely) I still give him at least next year to prove himself or put the nail in the coffin next March. That being said, this ROSTER.....just barf. I find myself rooting for the name on the front of the jersey while simultaneously shaking my head and shuddering at the names on the back of the jerseys.

Immature and entitled without any real moxy or talent to back it up. A bunch of wannabe tough guys who keep getting punked on the scoreboard. The type of guys I absolutely loved playing and beating just to shut them up. Only we don't shut up. We double down on stupid and try to fight in the handshake line.

And I'll call it out. Aidan Hadaway and Javan Simmons are the worst offenders.
I rewatched the end of yesterday's game. Surprise - the players who acted like jackasses during handshakes were Hadaway and Simmons.

Hadaway we've known for a long time has anger management problems, but Simmons has been a surprise to me in his bouts of temper. Was he like that at Toledo? If so, I'm unaware of it.

Looks to me like Simmons is holding back Hadaway. And that's not the first time he's taken that duty on.

If suggestions that it's an assistant coach lighting fires ahead of whatever that was in the handshake line are accurate... that's a problem.

Good job by Mike Jones to turn his team around and get them out of there before things escalated.

The week off might be the best thing for us.

It seemed to have started with our coaching staff, and then by the time the line got to Hadaway and Simmons Mike Jones had seen/heard enough.
Watching live I totally missed it. Then after reading all of this, I went back and watched. I could be wrong, but it looked like Barlow got into it first with somebody. Then Jones looked to be having a very good conversation with Captain Chaos and then it looked like Chaos said something to a player and Jones had enough and told his guys to get off the floor.

Regardless…we have seen such a lack of discipline with this basketball team this year in so many different areas. It’s something that this coaching staff has failed to address from day one. I am starting to believe that if Boals closes 1-6 or 2-5 to end the regular season he might need a win in Cleveland to keep his job for another year. Miami’s rise isn’t helping his cause. And let’s be honest….the Ohio Men’s basketball program is currently a shitcapade. Any NIL money coming in right now will be less heading into a Boals lame duck 2026-2027 season. Much less.

If I am Thornton and Barlow, I’m looking to move on after this season.
You know it scares me anytime I have to say this, but...

I 100% agree with you.

It definitely seemed like it started with assistant coaches, then Hadaway came in and it got worse. This is at least the 5th or 6th handshake line that fell apart this season.

I think labeling the entire team unlikable crybabies is too much. Hadaway is a problem and it just keeps happening over and over and the coaches don't even try to control it. Simmons has had his fair share of moments too. I do appreciate Aidan as a good player with a lot of love and loyalty for Athens, but his departure will go a long way to resetting our culture.

I've said before the coaches can easily cultivate a victim mentality throughout the team when they do too much whining about the refs. I really think our opponents often play better than they are, and I think Hadaway & others feed into that. We give the other team more fire and drive to beat our brains in. These are all cultural problems that need controlled by the coaching staff. I realize this may sound ridiculous after we attracted 2 opponent sin Simmons & Conners...but this unlikable culture also can't help our image and efforts in the portal era.

I'm trying to figure out how we got a 5 for 9 from 3 night from Sheldon and still lost easily to a team that has struggled as much as ODU has. Pavs wasn't scoring but had 11 assists and just 2 TOs. The easy answer is everyone other than Sheldon was 3 for 16 from 3 while we once again allowed our opponent to shoot well from 3, and boy they hit their free throws.

This loss, Bethune Cookman, and Ball State are the most upsetting results of the season. Flip those results and the season looks a lot different, but as is this season is definitely heading to the 2nd straight disappointing and underachieving season.

And the biggest story of all is JJ Kelly's injury. He couldn't put weight on his leg and had to be helped off. JJ's emergence has been the best thing about this season, if he is out it is hard to have any level of optimism and excitement for the stretch.

If JJ misses time, and Boals sticks to his Kuany for Hadaway and Breath for Simmons substitution patterns. Given EE is still hurt/not playing. That only leaves....Conners or Burris to take his starting spot? Ick.

I'm not sure I could name a MAC school with a more unathletic backcourt than a Pavs-Sheldon-Burris trio.

How can you say Pavs is not athletic?

Pavs and Sheldon hold their own athletically but they are capped b/c of size and become a 1:1 defensive issue.

You have no idea what went on! Have you ever once spoke to Coach Albin? Did you speak to long time radio guy Russ to see why he is no longer in Athens? If you actually talked to those people you would find out why they aren’t working at Ohio. Ask a few others who worked in
the department, why they left. No you won’t do that. That takes effort. You would rather bash and ridicule a former two time coach of the year who brought unprecedented football success to Ohio University. Keep singing the praises of the former female AD who rewarded the mens basketball coach with top salary for annual fifth seed performances.
