Impressed. Do you think Christian is a good closer? The last two pickups have been outstanding. I don't care if Adams has issues look at what Armon Bassett did for our program.

This is a poor comparison to make if you are trying to advocate for Anrio. Yeah, Bassett was a great talent and much of the credit in our postseason run that year goes to him, but all accounts I've heard said that Armon was a bad influence on our younger players.

Sorry.

Anrio has two state titles from different schools. Not sure of the back story on the changing of the schools but, the guy obviously knows how to win.  I'm thinking even Borna would be impressed with that... ;)

You've got to be excited about this kid. You need to be excited about this kid. Jim Christian has done it yet again. All of a sudden the loss of Caris Levert hurts a lot less.
As for all those out there hedging their bets with slights at Armon, please show some respect for for the guy and mention his 32 points against Georgetown in the same sentence.
There's a reason you invest in a kid like this.

I'm with you 100% on this one . You have to take a chance when the talent level is so high. Armon didn't exactly sink the program.

Okay, I'm confused. Perhaps someone can provide some clarity.  Kid goes to Kansas and gets little playing time as a freshman (hardly a red flag given who he sat behind).  Decides to transfer to Ohio.  And now is being portrayed as having an attitude like Bassett's and folks hoping he doesn't poison the chemistry - and we are "taking a chance on this kid."  Where is this concern coming from?  Simply because he transferred?  Sounds like posters are trying to read a personality into this kid.

Wow.  Huge pick up.  Welcome Mr. Adams.

We now have two 4 star, top 100 recruits on our roster.  That's freaking amazing.

Also, love this J Willis quote regarding Christian from the Arkley blog:  "He is a skill developer. You work with him, and you buy in, you will get better in a lot of different ways," Willis said.

Make sure you read Arkley's story in Messenger, I posted the link elsewhere.  It's obvious he's not the most mature kid in the world.  If stories are true about him going on twitter to complain about playing time, well...  Offet was not happy about playing time at TOSU, but you never heard him whining about it.

Also, don't know whole story, but if he's really that good, what happened to all those power conference schools that recruited him originally?  Was even one interested in him now?  Wish I knew the answers...

From what I read, UNLV, San Diego State, and Washington were interested in him. I know most of that is just rumors but there were other big time schools interested in him supposedly after he decided to transfer.

Not all schools have a scholarship just laying around for unexpected transfers. If Green didn't leave or our APR scores were lower, we never would've had an open spot for Adams.

I'm in no way saying this guy is a risk other than he is transferring which adds a little risk to the pickup. Hundreds of players transfer every year, some work out some don't . Some of the twitter stuff was supposedly a sham, so I wouldn't put much stock in that.
Lets face it, you take a chance on every player you recruit, but some have a higher ceiling which this guy does.

Rio played at Franklin High School in Seattle until transferring mid season to Garfield High School as a junior. The following summer he began working out at St. Patricks in New Jersey but transferred yet again back to Rainer Beach in Seattle for the start of his senior season.

Adams committed to Kansas in November of his senior season but was unable to sign a letter of intent due to academic issues. He took the ACT test several times his senior year and enrolled at Kansas for the second summer session before eventually being cleared by the NCAA to be eligible for his scholarship.

On April 2nd he announced he was transferring from Kansas, he was granted a release from his scholarship on April 3rd, then announced he changed his mind and decided to stay on April 4th. On April 8th he announced again that he was transferring. It was suggested that Rio wanted to be closer to home in Seattle. On June 15th Adams announced he was transferring to Ohio.

I am as excited as anyone that Rio Adams came to Ohio, I hope it works out.

It's still not a strength of his yet, but I think you will see rapid improvement in that department. He can be a terror on the defensive end, and will probably be more of a slasher in his first year of action. Expect some impressive dunks and layups.

Also, the youngster is a riot on the bench:

This is my personal favorite, where Rio was mocking an opposing player's "eating" gesture after every time he scored:

Looks like Stevie's got to compete for both the point and the hypeman this year. That energy is infectious. And more places than not, a crowd-pleaser.

I am always leary about these players transferring from high major programs, like Kansas.
Most peaked in high school and went to these great programs and stopped improving.
Disappointed they transfer.
Some are trouble.
Others are just plan disappointments, limited PT etc.
Sounds like JC will have some work to do with this kid.

I think this is kind of unfair.

There are a large list of reasons why some kids don't fit at programs like Kansas and none of them have to do with their ability as basketball players.

From my arm chair view, it appears personalities like Rio are far better fits at programs like Ohio than they are at programs like Kansas.

Fan pressure and media scrutiny are 1/100th that here vs. a place like Lawrence. Will there be expectations he needs to live up to? Of course but can you imagine any fans in Athens voicing their opinions about a player being too animated on the bench? Athens is a pretty goofy place, in a good way. He'll be embraced far more here for some goofy behavior than he ever would by the old hats in Kansas.

He'll have a year off to prioritize things. He was battling for every minute he got with 2 senior guards and a top 5 NBA draft pick. Talk about survival of the fittest. I can see how someone could get really frustrated in that situation…press, lose some confidence and get off track a bit on getting better. Then Kansas goes out and gets the #1 player in the county…a combo 2/3 and he's staring down that barrel if he returns. With all that said he still played in 24 games at a program like Kansas, as a Freshman. Clearly he has talent, it just needs to be harnessed.

This years team will still benefit from Adams' presence, even if he doesn't see game action. One thing he immediately does is give a practice look that no one in the league can produce. A top 100 player on your scout team, pushing the starters everyday in practice, could potentially be a big boost. Hopefully he seizes that opportunity to help the team and to get better.

All in all, couldn't be more excited. I think every kid should be given a chance to prove himself. Rio will get that chance, like every other Bobcat that comes through the door.

Agree with CATman.

Many high major transfers do work out well.  Some don't.  Walter Offutt worked out well for us and we hope things work out well for Anrio Adams.

Count me in the "good news" reaction.

Initially, I was slightly concerned that JC seemed focused on recruiting bigs in a guard driven college game.  Now, we have two top 100, former Big XII guards that will carry our backcourt for the next 4 years.

Is it November yet?

I noticed that Rio majored in journalism at Kansas.  I wonder if this influenced his decision to come to Ohio, since we have a good journalism school?

CATman.......My post was all based on history in similar situations. We can both spend time evaluating all the transfers these past 10 or so years and we would probably agree that most were disappointments. My concern is more of a reality check than to show too much excitement.
Like you stated in your post... time will tell.
I certainly hope I am wrong.

Bubba Walther, Armon Bassett, Walter Offutt, Jon Smith.

That doesn't look like "most were disappointments" to me.
