I'd like to be proud he's on my Rays and I get to see him play in person regularly, but man he kind of sucks this year.

i don't know about sucks, he does have a 2.73 ERA.  Wish he would cut back on the walks, but I wouldn't say he's doing bad at all.

He's allowing nearly a hit an inning and walking more than he's striking out... not good. Somehow, though, he's sporting a 133 ERA+. It hasn't hurt him yet, but a regression's on the way if he doesn't shape it up.

His ERA is down to 2.08, which indeed sounds spectacular. But he still has more walks (12) than strikeouts (11). The good thing is he is stranding better than 78 percent of baserunners, helped by the fact that he gives up very few home runs and has a much-improved groundball rate.

According to Fangraphs, he's more or less stopped throwing his curveball and changeup and really is going with just a fastball and slider (which he hadn't thrown much at all the last two years). His velocity is pretty much right where it has been in his career at 94.4 on average on his fastball. His slider rates as having very good vertical movement.

It really seems a matter of locating the ball better that could make him into a truly outstanding reliever.

Well he pretty much is what he is. An average middle reliever in the big leagues. Nothing more, nothing less.

Strikes was his big drawback as a Cat, used to get himself in trouble and have to battle out of it. He is progressing well.

Let's not lose sight of the fact that pitching with runners on (i.e. "out of trouble") is a different skill and should not be discounted.

I would like to note that when he came in from the bullpen on Opening Day I sang Stand Up & Cheer to the confused looks of the surrounding fans and the embarrassment of my travel partner.

Let's not forget this guy is pitching in the Major Leagues...and not to mention the AL East, the toughest division in baseball!  Every time he comes in, he is usually facing at least one all star caliber player...He doesn't have overpowering stuff but he has to have good movement because he only throws a fastball and a slider...and how can you not root for a guy like this:

"—RHP Adam Russell(notes) is trying to draw attention to a cause involving his sister Tracy Galvin's fight with breast cancer, as the FDA is considering withdrawing approval of a medicine she used in conjunction with chemotherapy called Avastin. Russell opened a Twitter account (@AdamRussell36) to encourage people to sign an online petition—which also can be accessed at fameds.org—to convince government officials to keep the drug available and covered by insurance."

Having lost someone very close to me to cancer, I wish him and his sister the best against this horrible disease...

Regardless of performance, he's our ONLY major league right now. So I'm behind him 100%!

He was Designated for Assignment today.  He's out of options so he's has to clear waivers in order to be sent down.  Hopefully another MLB team will pick him up.
