I was so happy to see this honor and also that many, many folks in the stands gave him a standing O when he was introduced. I don't know all of the details about why it took so long, but I do have a little knowledge on the subject. All I will say is that there were "issues" and that Jim Schaus deserves many kudos for overcoming them. It's wonderful to have probably our greatest athletic alumnus of all time back in the fold once more. A very happy reunion, indeed!

As the career milestones were being rattled off by year Saturday, it was getting increasingly embarrassing for old Ohio. MLB HOF 1995, Bob Wren Stadium 2014.

There had to be a pretty fair number in attendance who would have no recollection of ever seeing Schmidt play. Retired in 1989. That's twenty five years, kids. I was afraid it might end up like many other introductions in Peden, with just a smattering of polite applause. How inappropriate that would have been, too. We didn't thunder like I hoped but it wasn't bad.

At least he's back in the fold.

So, I guess I really dropped the ball not knowing he was in town for homecoming. Being a collector, I would have loved to see him. Also, these items are up for auction.

Doesn't look like he's holding on to his love of Ohio very hard. Maybe there is another reason he's been back to Athens twice in 35 years.

See the video recap of The Best Third Baseman Ever's presentation and speech: He states with vigor that his 4 1/3 years at Ohio were the best years of his life.

So he's selling his All-American Ring and Lettermans Jacket? Makes sense!

Well, he' settling a lot of stuff. Gold Glove Award, All-Star ring etc. He's 65 and dealing with cancer. Seems to me he's trying to make life easier for his family in settling his estate.

Universal standing and applause from the BGSU section as well - that was cool
