not really mentioned is the boost that the new IPF has to give to baseball. They've heretofore had nowhere indoors to have a decent practice when the weather is crappy. I think this should be huge for the baseball program. It's unfortunate that every spring we get baptism by fire against really good teams from the South that have been outdoors for two months already.

Definitely a solid point...It's not like they can hit the local batting cages in Athens either. Did they have anywhere at all to practice indoors beforehand? I'd have to imagine they had at least something set up somewhere.

I'm pretty sure the small building behind the baseball field are a couple of indoor hitting lanes/cages.

OHIO has had indoor cages for years, four cages. New facility will not be a place they can hit, however they will be able to do other things inside. That is when Rec is not using the building. Remember this is a campus wide facility that is not controlled or scheduled by Athletics

I believe they would also take groundballs indoors at the tennis courts by the golf course. Sometimes the team would travel to Chillicothe to practice on the turf.

Indoor batting cages notwithstanding... that means nothing next to having a place you can really run and throw and do drills on at least a full size infield.

From everything I've heard, I fully believe baseball is doomed so long as the current coaching staff is in place. IPF or otherwise, baseball is dying a slow death at Ohio. The sad thing is no one really cares...

Losing. Don't see it being eliminated, at least so long as the MAC keeps it as a required sport. But to me the administration is not making a commitment to baseball. Not saying it's right or wrong (have to look at ROI with such limited resources)...but the writing is on the wall.

By the time basketball season is done its time for the spring party season so how do you attune students toward the sport? The resources might be better spent on a men's Lacrosse team.

What resources? Men's Lax would cost considerable more money. The recurit budget alone would would be way higher than that of baseball. The cost of travel would increase, and what league would they compete?
