Bobcat Baseball enjoying celebration of MAC championship teams this weekend in Athens. Former baseball coach Jerry France organized a Baseball reunion weekend for the championship teams that he played on in the mid 60's, and also for members of teams he coached during his tenure as head baseball coach.
The teams that France played on under Coach Bob Wren are arguably the best teams in Ohio University history. Former major league players and All-American's filled the recently renovated Kermit Blosser Hall of Fame lobby for a picnic-reception Friday evening. Coach Rob Smith made sure that all current Bobcat Baseballers were in attendance and they all had the opportunity to meet and visit with former Bobcats who have left their mark on Ohio Baseball. Long time major league players Tom Murphy, and Terry Harmon were present, along with first team All-American Bob Willett who will be inducted into the Ohio Hall of Fame next Friday during Homecoming weekend. The former Bobcats have been invited by Coach Smith to be present for the presentation of MAC championship rings to the 2014 Championship team after Saturday's practice and prior to a Saturday evening banquet at the Ohio University Inn. Awesome to see so many Bobcats return to campus to be a part of this great weekend event. Lots of great stories being shared all around!

This seems like a great event, but I have to question the idea of doing this in the Fall and not as part of a Conference series weekend in Spring, where lots of people can see meaningful baseball and enjoy the reunion.

Scheduling for an event like this is never easy in Athens with limited hotels, other events going on etc etc. This weekend worked out fine, (except for the weather which washed out the on field activity). It was great that our current players were able to meet and mix with former Bobcat greats and everyone was able to share in the excitement of the 2014 MAC championship.
With first team all-american Bob Willet going into the Ohio Hall of Fame in this years class, it was a natural for Jerry France to rally former team mates
to return to Athens for the reunion of their championship teams. A great time was had by all !
