Sound coming from those who mercilessly ripped and savaged the Bobcats and Coach Smith last season: {crickets}
I think I probably fall in that category, only because I don't think there is any way we were actually THAT bad his first two years. It's clear though that he was a bit stubborn, and he was going to make the program the way he wanted it. I wouldn't go as far as to say he didn't care about winning early on, but not having summer ball the first year felt a little bit like a Norman Dale move.

Anyway, I've been waiting for this since even before wearing the Green and White myself. I'm rooting them on and will be upping my annual donation. With an indoor practice facility, there is no reason why Ohio can't be a top five team in the region. This is only the beginning. We'll probably be a stepping stone for coaches (seriously, what top coach isn't going to jump at a job in the south), but Smith can help set the tone.

We are Kent State on steroids in the right hands.

I keep hearing about the Illini win streak, but they have now lost 2 of their last 3. And while 21-1 against Big 10 competition in regular season play, they have an impressive, but not as intimidating 26-7-1 record when out of conference. (including a 2-2 record against the MAC). This might be hard to believe, but could the Big 10 possibly be overrated? *note sarcasm

That's a winning % non-league of 76%, and the two MAC losses were early. They are obviously a quality team.

No doubt, but this is baseball. The insuperior opponent wins regularly in baseball. Can't wait!

Maybe Dustin Ford will shoot over to the game tonight wearing green?

Yep, you don't know what to expect in any given game. The worst team usually beats the best team once out of every three or four games at competitive levels. I don't think that's true in any other sport.

Softball seems much more predictable. Looking at the bracket, the top 8 seeds were the eight to advance to the College World Series. All but two of them swept the super regional, and only one of them lost a game in the regional. One main reason I would think is that it's the same pitcher pretty much every game.

I think if we win this one, its going to have to be 3-2, or 2-1. If they start Duchene he is going to be a tough matchup. We will need our pitchers to step up today.

You didn't need sarcasm for that post the Big10 went 5-0 today, and we were unable to muster much fight. Great thing about baseball is you get a chance tomorrow to go back out there. Go Cats

I was able to get it to work. I switched from Safari to Google Chrome and had no problems. You may want to try switching your browser

Wee Willie Keeler would be proud. ;-)

Line-Up for Yesterday

K is for Keeler,
As fresh as green paint,
The fastest and mostest
To hit where they ain't.

This game got off to a strange start with that big storm system blowing up, and both teams scoring early. Illinois has some pop and they can put runs up, especially if you help them out by walking a few guys or allowing runs to plate via wild-pitches or passed balls. Can't make those kind of mistakes against a quality team. Cats will have a chance to bounce back and see if they can get a win over Wright State.
It was great to see and visit a bit with our former basketball coach before the game. He had the entire family on hand including his new addition. While sitting out some of the rain in our car, we also got to hear JG on the Illini radio station from the press box. He had some good things to say about his time at Ohio and Bobcat baseball.
He was not around for the Wright State game as he was throwing out the first pitch at the Cubs game. Busy weekend for J.G !

The only notable difference between Big 10 and MAC baseball is pitching depth.
I wouldn't even say that most years. This has been an outstanding season for the Big 10, but most years, I'd stack the MAC against the Big Ten and like my chances. In the 1998-2014 years (now known as the lost/transition years), Ohio would still hold their own against the MAC teams they played.

I wonder if you have any stats to back up your assertions on both counts or if it's just a guess.
