Would be shocked if they aren't playing at one of the Kentucky schools.

The No. 4 seed against No. 1 Kentucky. No. 2 Indiana and No. 3 NC state are the other teams. Bobcats play Friday at noon on ESPNU.

This is a great draw. Not far away and avoided a powerhouse. Kentucky is one of the weaker #1 regional seeds. They also don't have a lock down ace on the staff. Obviously it is still a tall task but I'd take this over being sent to Louisville or Carolina. I'd also argue Indiana is a weaker #2 seed.

Kentucky is hitting .317 as a team. They have 10 guys who have enough at-bats to qualify in league leaders and all are in the .280s or better. They will be tough on Ohio's pitchers.

Well - I don't ever remember anyone ever saying about a baseball prospect - "But can he catch and throw?"

You're right, everybody wants to draft 3 tool players.

Hmm . . . am I reading this correctly that this game will be at UK's home stadium? I wonder when they started playing the first few rounds at home fields. I remember the year OHIO went to the CWS, the first round games were played in Columbus at Jet Stadium (later Clipper Stadium). I remember attending a game there against a B!0 team and one against Notre Dame. Seems a lot fairer to me.

The baseball tournament format has changed a bunch of times over the years. I don't know when teams began to get home games but it's almost essential now with it being a 64-team tournament. It would be hard to find 16 neutral host sites this time of year. Almost all NCAA tournaments in all sports have home teams hosting early rounds.

Only since the mid-1970s :).

I didn't mean to suggest Kentucky won't be hard or that they aren't talented. Just that we were bound to face one of 16 #1 seeds and I am happy with the one we got, considering the alternatives. In a single matchup, I will take the heavy hitting squad without an ace over the team anchored by a couple pitchers.

I agree with that, especially with this Ohio team. And looking at those statistics, I'd have to agree that Indiana must be one of the weaker No. 2 seeds. I don't know how it ever won enough games to be a No. 2 seed. Nothing about their stats is overwhelming in any way.

I just checked out Indiana's 2017 schedule. Talk about an UNimpressive schedule especially for a 2 seed.

When I was an Ohio student, the Bobcats got to host a first-rounder that included Ohio State, Bradley and, if I am recalling correctly, Detroit. That of course was BEFORE the '70s.

It's gotta be Michael Klein, right? Followed by Tom Colletti in game 2 and Gerry Salibury in game 3?

Looks like UK is sending the "SEC Pitcher of the Year Sean Hjelle to the mound on Friday".

One of us, Mike, has a memory problem. In my case, though, my wife corroborates my memory. She remembers attending the games at Jet Stadium against a B10 team and Notre Dame. This was the CWS year -- 1970.

Carl, I'm not disputing what you saw and where; rather I was noting that the 4-team tournament played in Athens that I saw was played in the 60s while I was a student.
