Ohio got it done. After losing 7-1 on Friday, Ohio used a 6-run fourth inning to win Saturday 8-6. Rudy Rott hit a solo homer in the 1st and a 3-run shot to cap off the big inning. In between, a couple of Western starters turned relievers to try to win this series couldn't find the strike zone. Brett Manis was good in relief and gave up a couple of singles and then a sac bunt to start the ninth to put two in scoring position. Kutt came in and got a strikeout and a groundout to end it.

Rott's bat flip on his second home run. Apparently the Western dugout was yelling at him afterward. Next batter had a ball thrown over his head and teams got warned.

Ohio takes on No. 3 Kent State in the first round of the MAC tourney at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

I don't have a problem with bat flips but damn...that was a bit obnoxious.

Basketball has stare downs after a dunk. Football has end zone dances. Hockey has mob scene group hugs after a goal. But a bat flip is obnoxious? No wonder baseball has lost popularity with younger generation.

Like I said, I don't have a problem with bat flips. Everyone dunk celebration or anything else in sports has a line somewhere too, don't act like it is unique to baseball. Maybe you don't think this bat flip was that bad but you have to acknowledge at some point it is bad, where people draw that line just differs. What if he had stood there for 2 more seconds? 5 more seconds? What if he made a cocky gesture to the pitcher?

I honestly don't have a problem with Rudy's bat flip here, I am just saying I can understand why this one brought some drama with it.

And contrary to popular belief, baseball is not losing the youth any more than most every other sport. ESPN and other talking heads like to use the severely flawed and short-sighted measure of national broadcast ratings to project onto the entire baseball fanbase, and yes those numbers are bad. But local TV ratings for baseball have been tremendous and steady for years, including among young people.

Impressive finish for the Cats this weekend. This was their Game 7. Incredible how the schedule played out with the last tourney seed on the line.

Hats off to Rob Smith. He has a way of rallying the troops for big games like this. This season could've been a dumpster fire but they kept improving and earned their way into the tournament. As we've seen in 2015 and 2017, all we need is a chance and who knows what could happen.
