Ohio won the first three games against Eastern Michigan and dropped the finale, putting the Bobcats at 10-10 in MAC play, which at this moment would get them in the MAC tournament. They are tied with the Eagles for fourth place at 10-10 (and Toledo is just ahead in third at 12-11).

The Bobcats scored lots of runs the first three games, winning 12-8, 12-4 and 14-8, but then lost 3-1. Ohio is on a bye from MAC play this weekend. It goes to Morehead State on Tuesday and hosts Canisius in a doubleheader Saturday. Series remain against Miami (10-13 MAC), Akron (9-15), Ball State (15-3) and Western Michigan (8-10).

Does anybody know the actual reason why the conference moved to 4 game series?

I don't understand why there is a bye week in conference play but yet still play 4 every weekend? Is this something that was voted on?

The bye week is a necessary evil of an 11 team league with Buffalo not having baseball anymore. And going to 4 game series may be related as well, where the forced bye week was eating into the number of conference games.

Its a shame that one team leaving has a ripple effect like this. It may not seem like a big deal but moving from a 3 game series to 4 games is huge and something completely unique compared to other sports.

Players and coaches (and fans and employees for that matter) despise double headers, especially in the North. If I had to guess, a double header that starts at noon would require the home team to be at the locker room between 7-8am to get dressed (earlier if treatment is needed in the AT room) for team stretching that starts about 3 hours before first pitch.

Game 2 probably ends between 6-8pm, 10+ hours at the facilities.

Now do this pretty much every Saturday and Sunday if weather doesn't cooperate.
