Looking forward to Friday at SC-Upstate. If MLB lockout continues, I'll be following the Bobcats like never before.

Interested to see who the 3 starting pitchers are...and if Kutt will be one of them or if they'll try to use him as long relief ace again this season.

I recently saw that ESPN is upping their coverage of college baseball, most likely due to the lockout. Wonder if that will trickle down to the mid-majors or if they are just planning on airing every SEC/ACC game.

Agreed with this. Hoping we have a great year of baseball!

One player that I've very intrigued to see is first basemen Cael Baker. He's a central Ohio boy out of Gahanna with some very impressive JUCO accolades from 2019.

Batted .506 with 101 RBI, 25 home runs, 80 runs, .596 OBP and 1.051 SLG... Named 2019 NJCAA Player of the Year, Junior College First-Team All-American and Conference, District and Regional Player of the Year... Named top Junior College Player of 2019 by Perfect Game.

Didn't have the same success at Ole Miss but did start 44 games last year on a team that was ranked #1 at one point. The MAC is somewhat underrated when it comes to starting pitching so it'll be interesting to see how he fares. He has a high ceiling and Ohio has had some really good right handed power hitters come through the program.

ESPN+ still showing that the game hasn't started yet? Wonder if they are having technical difficulties at the ballpark?

I would say technical difficulties at the ballpark. Looks like the live stats are also down.

Live stats and ESPN+ broadcast are currently unavailable for the game. We will send out an update if anything changes. From the Ohio baseball Twitter account

I saw on Twitter that USC Upstate took a 5-4 lead on a WP in bottom of 6th.

Sounds like a good comeback win. 9-6. Too bad we couldn't watch it.

Yes Friday great. Saturday not so good. Sunday awful.

I saw bits and pieces on ESPN+. Was nice to watch some live baseball. Several errors over the weekend, many very basic routine plays. The SS on Friday had 3, then the different SS on Sunday had 2. We may have a SS problem.

Isiah Peterson definitely looks like a leader out there as expected. Good D and quality ABs. Cael Baker is a monster, did NOT have a good weekend. Hopefully he gets it going.

Looks like they still aren't sure who their starters are beyond Kutt. Seemed like it was auditions all weekend, some went OK several did not.

Upstate is a good team, it would not surprise me to see them finish top 3 in their league. Not a great start for the Bobcats but opening weekend is almost like a glorified scrimmage/spring training. The games count but mean little to nothing at the end of the year.

Was a little disappointed in the bats, didn't see many good ABs from the innings I saw.

Another year wishing I could buy an authentic on-field hat to support the team.

I guess I shouldn't expect that since we didn't even get emails/letters this year from the new coach. Rob Smith was good about keeping alums in the loop on a more personal level.

I'd agree that alumni relations could definitely be better in many ways.

0 for his first 23 at bats in Ohio's first 6 games with 9 strike outs and 2 sac flies.

Sheesh! I probably would've been benched after and 0-4 start lol.

I mean this kid has to be feeling some type of pressure to perform. Not sure Ohio has ever had a kid on the roster with the accolades Cael has garnered, not every year do we get an SEC transfer. Perfect Game's JUCO POY is no joke either.

He's got hundreds of ABs left, I'm not worried yet.

I can't say I'm not worried. That is a really bad start to seeing D1 pitching. Yeah it is only 6 games and can he adjust and be decent? Sure. But I would say I'm not real confident in him being an above average hitter in the MAC at this point. Hope I'm wrong. Also, in the video I got to watch last week his range & length at 1st seemed to be below average at best. Ohio has had a lot of throwing errors already and he hasn't helped that.

Just looked his numbers up for Ole Miss. He seemed to be Dave Kingman type of season. Hit home runs or walk back to the dugout. Hopefully he finds his grove.

His numbers were pretty bad at Ole Miss, I agree. Wonder if they essentially replaced him thus entering the transfer portal. I've heard this happens all the time at major baseball schools, especially a position like first base where essentially any position player can learn the position relatively quickly.

Unless he just completely lost his swing/approach, I'll be surprised if he isn't at least an average hitter in the MAC, with a high ceiling.
