My brother was listening to yesterday's game. His son is the hitting star for Ball State. I tried to get Ohio to recruit him, but they didn't seem interested. Anyway, he was so impressed with Russ. He said it was like listening to a professional game. He couldn't believe the quality of the broadcast. Apparently students do a lot of the games at other schools. We all should be thankful for what we have.

I started watching a Lipscomb (private mid-major) baseball game earlier this spring. (ESPN+) Thankfully it was rained out. It looked like a high school tried to produce the broadcast. The announcer was terribly amateur and he was NOT a college kid.

Doesn't surprise me about Russ.

He definitely is not what you're used to seeing for mid-major baseball. I wonder how his baseball broadcasts work with his contract/compensation package. Over the years he has indicated a few times he really likes the game of baseball and I wonder if it is just a labor of love for him to do these games.

I have no experience in any sort of sports broadcasting but I would think that baseball would be the most fun out of the major sports to cover. There's just something about baseball that works with radio perfectly.

Both him and Derek Scott love baseball and calling baseball. Russ even does PA for the high school tournament baseball when he's available. Derek Scott does all South Carolina Gamecocks baseball as well.
