Alabama fired their coach today, while the team was preparing to start a 3 game series vs 5th ranked, defending national runner-up Vanderbilt.

Ohio was one of three states that halted betting on Bama baseball games.

Tonight's Bama-Vandy game is on ESPNU to spice it up even more.

More information came out today on how he was linked to a bettor which led to Ohio shutting down bets on Bama baseball games.

I expect more of this kind of thing in the future. I wouldn't be surprised to see a D1 basketball or football coach getting involved with bettors, not to mention players. Others will disagree, but I think the "NIL milieu" will make unethical behavior more prevalent than in the past. It's a paradigm shift for college athletics. Not all paradigm shifts advance society (or science). As Thomas Kuhn has pointed out some paradigm shifts in the history of science have been steps backwards. The NIL paradigm shift in college athletics may be a backwards one, but if an analogy to Kuhn's seminal work on the history of science is valid, it may take many years to find out as those who champion the new paradigm with ignore contrary evidence and try to patch the new paradigm with makeshift changes. Changing the paradigm may have to wait for a generational change. Or, this whole paragraph may be total BS. You, dear reader, be the judge.

....suspicious betting activity at a sportsbook at Great American Ball Park.

The ethics and integrity of college sports has gone in the toilet.

This is still unclear to me. Can somebody explain what exactly happened? The Bama coach was in communication with a bettor and that's it? There's no details on the size of the wager or anything so I'm having trouble understanding the severity.

Is this as simple as the coach telling a bettor that there would be a late scratch to the original starter? Or are there other details that haven't been revealed?

Other sources have mentioned $150,000 (unheard of for college baseball)

Here is an updated edition that may help clarify...

Crazy, I can't believe they actually thought they'd get away with it? Bohannon was getting paid $475k with $25k raises each year for the next 3 years.

Why, why, why?
