More information came out today on how he was linked to a bettor which led to Ohio shutting down bets on Bama baseball games.
I expect more of this kind of thing in the future. I wouldn't be surprised to see a D1 basketball or football coach getting involved with bettors, not to mention players. Others will disagree, but I think the "NIL milieu" will make unethical behavior more prevalent than in the past. It's a paradigm shift for college athletics. Not all paradigm shifts advance society (or science). As Thomas Kuhn has pointed out some paradigm shifts in the history of science have been steps backwards. The NIL paradigm shift in college athletics may be a backwards one, but if an analogy to Kuhn's seminal work on the history of science is valid, it may take many years to find out as those who champion the new paradigm with ignore contrary evidence and try to patch the new paradigm with makeshift changes. Changing the paradigm may have to wait for a generational change. Or, this whole paragraph may be total BS. You, dear reader, be the judge.
