After beating Texas St. yesterday, Kent St. knocked off 5th-ranked (and 7th seed overall) Texas 7-5 today. They stand one win away from advancing to the Super Regional next weekend.

And thisshows northern teams can win. Too bad it wasn't  Ohio doing the winning.  Maybe a new baseball coach will change things.

Texas defeated Texas State earlier today, 4-3.  Kent will play Texas tonight at 730 eastern.  WIth a win they will more than likely head over to Tempe to take on the Sun Devils, given that they win their region, which is looking very likely.  WIth a loss they would play the Horns tomorrow afternoon in  a winner take all game.  If you're interested in watching, you can do so at the link below.

What's hilarious about Kent State is their coach and former player Scott Stricklin is Athens' own. Anyone know if he was offered at all by Carbone? Now he's done a great job building on this team and will have a lot of choices to coach elsewhere if he desires. Not to mention Stricklin seems to land a lot of the more local players to Athens. Nothing like owning a university and his home area in baseball, which is pretty much what he is doing at the moment.

Stillings, Davis, Shaw, Humphreys...ton of SE District baseball players right there who are legit and could have played significant innings for OU. In our backyard!

It's just sad that the class of the MAC is being run by a guy from Athens County. Coaching his alma mater, that means we didn't land him as a local recruit and he is now burning us again by dominating the MAC East. Pretty much sums up our struggles in a nutshell. That's not being negative, that's just looking at what is going on. Ohio doesn't win MAC East titles, let alone MAC titles. Kent State is in it every year. With a guy growing up down the road in an area always being looked down upon as not having quality D1 athletes.

What are you talking about GA Tech for?  He played at Kent State, correct?

Ohio recurited him and did not get him. At that point Ohio had a solid catcher who was young, and Strick chose the opportunity to play early. Carbine did take two teammates of Stricks who were valuable Bobcats! Sometimes recuriting is a game of numbers.
