It is about the Dbacks organizational All-Stars.  Krauss was mentioned as a top outfielder in the organization (not surprised at all):

Marc Krauss, Visalia (138 games): He formed a powerful duo with Goldschmidt in the Rawhide lineup, hitting .302 with 25 homers and 87 RBIs in only his second season. The Ohio University product, who batted .304 in 32 games with South Bend last year, was the Cal League Player of the Week on July 6 and earned postseason All-Star honors.

"All along, we felt he would hit for power and we had no doubts he'd hold an average too," Berger said. "He uses all three fields, power to both gaps. He was probably as consistent as we had in the organization from start to finish. He had a wonderful year."


Also, one thing I found on his player page is his little 2 line blurb:

"Selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the second round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft ... son of Dave and Jenny Krauss ... Has two siblings. ... Became first player in University of Ohio history to win MAC Player of the Year (2009)."

University of Ohio? come on MILB.com

marc is rated the 5th best prospect in the 'zona organization by baseball america's prospect handbook.  he is predicted to be "the first member of arizona's 2009 draft class to reach the majors."

Diamondbacks | Reassign players to minor league camp

The Arizona Diamondbacks reassigned IF Andy Tracy, OF David Winfree and RP Clay Zavada to Triple-A Reno Friday, March 11, according to MLB.com's Steve Gilbert. P Matt Gorgen and OF Marc Krauss were sent to Double-A Mobile, while C Rossmel Perez was sent to Single-A Visalia. P Juan Jaime was assigned to Single-A South Bend.

Not shocking. If he can hit in the Southern League like he did in the CAL league, he'll be in Arizona by September, maybe sooner since the Diamondbacks should be out of contention early.

Most say AA is the toughest level in the minors, so we'll see how good his bat is this season, as that's his ticket to the Majors.

This is a good thing for Mr. Krauss.  I friend of mine with more baseball smarts than I, told me once that a team's future stars are all in Double A. Triple A is used for those guys who can't stay on a MLB roster (hole in their game somewhere) or because they're are too many players on the MLB roster at their position and they're not gettingthe  at bats or innings pitched.

There is some truth to that, although I think it is a bit over-generalized.  Top tier prospects do generally make short stops at AAA these days, but there are plenty of very good prospects in AAA, many of which are blocked at the ML level at his position.  The good news for Krauss is they do not have anyone who has 1st base locked down.  If Krauss plays well at AA this year and nobody on the D'Backs explodes at 1B, he has a great shot at breaking camp as the opening day starter next season.

I think is right where he needs to be...for now.  This is keeps him on track, and I'm sure the Dbacks don't want to rush him and put him over his head.  Double A is where a ton of prospects are.  His future is probably left field as well.  He's only played 4 games at 1st Base in the Minors. 

The starting LF in Triple A played AAA last year and saw some time in the bigs.  He's 3 years old and was a 3rd round pick.  So this way, Krauss will be the everyday starter in LF in Double A, which is great.  He just needs at bats vs better competition to prove himself.  Whether its in Double or Triple A doesn't much matter at this point in my opinion. 

Don't bet on the bigs this year, but look next year for sure.

Right now looks like Gerardo Parra, who is the same age as Krauss, is going to start in LF with Xavier Nady as the backup.  Parra has played in the bigs the last two years and has hit .290 and last year .261.  He is also a lefty hitter, much smaller and doesn't have the pop Krauss does, and he doesnt make up for it with speed either.  He has 6 SB and 7 CS.  

If Krauss keeps progressing, and this Para doesn't drastically improve, the big league team doesn't have anyone to stop Krauss. 

The Triple A starter doesn't have Krauss's size either or power.  He can't run as well either. 

Overall I don't think Krauss has any big competition, he just needs more time in the minors before coming up.
