First of all this is pure speculation, but reading about how Cleveland St and many other universities are dropping their baseball program, I got to thinking….

With the timing of Carbone stepping down, and the universities know budgetary deficit is there a chance we are cutting baseball in the next few years? The fact that Carbone ran the program into the ground and we have had little success in the last 15 years doesn’t help our case.

I don’t see college baseball surviving many places other than the SEC, ACC and maybe Pac 12. It’s only a matter of time. Maybe sooner than later?

We cannot drop any more sports and remain an FBS school.  The minimum is 16, and I actually only count 15 on our website.  I'm thinking perhaps Track & Field gets counted twice (indoor/outdoor).  Regardless, the answer certainly is no, unless we drop to FCS, which still seems highly unlikely to me, and even at that point, I think they'd cut elsewhere first.  Regardless of success and fan support, we do have a very nice facility for baseball.

Baseball is also a required MAC sport.
