I was trying to find out where Jerod Yakubik was playing this year, but then found he was released back in November by the Angels. Did he catch on anywhere else?

Shame to see a kid who hit .307 in 2010 and .344 in 2011 got released. He was a 34th rd draft pick, but still those numbers aren't too bad.

He lead the Pioneer league in hitting last year.

Yea I got that, but is he playing anywhere this year?

The Yakubik situation is confusing...It doesn't seem to add up.  I wonder if personal matters or something of the like caused the Angels to release him.  Doesn't make sense to just release him after the success he had.  Be nice if someone could track down where he has ended up.  Gotta figure someone would take a chance on him.

Because he was a 23 year old beating up on high schoolers and low draft picks in one of the lowest levels of the minors. He doesn't have power and he doesn't have projection. The Angels have Pujols, Morales, and Trumbo, they aren't going to keep around a 24 year old first basemen with no power and projection when they can give playing time younger guys with more projection.

He is a good ball player no doubt, just not someone who an organization wants to spend resources knowing there is very low chance he even come close to making an impact.

He signed with an Indy team, the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League

This is true. There are really only 10-12 true mlb prospects per team farm system. Yes there are unexpected prospects who overachieve and succeed. But for the most part if you arent one of the 10-12 then you only exist to play against the 10-12 and make them better. If one of the 10-12 is the same position as you and needs ABs then they let you go.
