Some got a little excited over one MAC win, a little premature.

Well, it was two MAC wins, one of them over the 1-seed. Reason enough for some excitement.

They represented well, but still had work to do, my comment towards one win was about the Texas win.  Texas is awfully good.  New format is a little tough on us Northern schools, have to prove in a series we are better, not just one game.

Northern schools are at a huge disadvantage in NCAA Div. I baseball due to climate and tradition.

If I were a young man from the North with baseball talent and a possible professional future, I would seriously consider attending college in the South...I would think that even a lot of the Div. II programs down there would be equivalent or better than Div. I programs in the North.

Most D2 schools might THINK they are better in the south, but most of them will have maybe 2-3 players who slipped through the cracks, and the rest are playing D2 because of their overall lack of talent.

Most southern schools dont recruit up north either.

I was certain that a couple years ago the NCAA agreed to shift the baseball season one month later, but it doesn't seem to have happened. Did something curtail the plan?

They put in a universal start date a few years back. That might be what you are thinking of.

Kent State's ability to be one of the best northern teams is nothing short of amazing. They are better than the Big 10 almost every year, yet with vastly less resources. Coach Stricklin really has something special going on up there!

Couple quick facts I recently learned:

The last northern school to win the college world series was Ohio State in 1966.
Wichita State won in 1989 if you consider that Northern.

The last Northern school to make even make it to Omaha was Notre Dame in 2002.
Nebraska made it in 2005 if you consider that Northern.

I guess they would be technically considered Northern. Although their winters are milder than the midwest and northeast so they can get outside earlier.

Technically they are the Pacific Northwest which has a much different climate than the NE and Midwest, so they would not be considered a "northern" team.

I can't really find the date when this changed, but way back when, 60's and 70s, there had to be a team from each region in the CWS.

This is the reason for Western Mich being in the CWS 6 times.  Also, teams like St. John's, Southern Illinois (5 apps), use to make it.

Almost wished they kept it that way, but I understand why it changed.

Can anyone find when they did away with that?

It's a shame how southern dominant the sport has become. The general interest/enthusiasm for baseball in the north is waning. It's truly becoming a Southern game, at least at the high school and college level.
