Not yet!   Way to early in Coach Smith's run..   You have to give him time to bring his players to Athens.   This team is lacking depth.    This baseball team has a ton of injuries this year to "starters".  We are taking the field with a lot of freshman and for the most part going deep into the depth chart.   Not a good thing when you are trying to rebuild.   With all the injuries this year and lack of depth you are seeing the results.   Players out of position, lack of pitching, poor  timely hitting.
Name me one Division 1 team that is playing with more freshman & has incurred as many injuries as this team has.   I feel these coaches will turn this program around in time.   Give the coaches  the time they deserve.  We have to be patient.

However if they were winning you'd be giving the staff all the credit.

I wish the team was performing better, too, but I really don't think it's fair to barely give a coach a year. If things aren't better next year and the year after with the players he has recruited then it will be clear that something isn't right. When a team has just five wins at this point in the season, there is plenty of blame to go around but all involved need a chance to prove themselves. I'd say very little has gone right this season and part of that just plain bad luck.

I find it hard to believe that his play calling, pitch calling, sign calling, etc. is the reason for why they're losing games. Do you honestly believe that a freshman catcher should be calling pitches? I'd hope not. These kids are the ones on the mound who are walking 10+ batters a game, which is embarrassing. These kids are the ones making errors on routine plays. These kids are the ones who can't hit worth anything. To put all the blame on a coach is unfair and very unintelligent. You have no clue what these coaches do for these players to prepare them for games. Hell, none of them had even seen a scouting report in their whole careers before Smith. The only thing that needs to change is the players. Once he can recruit a higher quality of talent, that's when you will see results. Hence, it takes time to rebuild a program that hasn't won the MAC since 1997!

I certainly hope this isn't Coach Smith or anyone on the coaching staff saying this, because they definitely deserve to be fired immediately if it is.

Part of being a successful coach is bringing in talent then coaching them up.  I don't care if you are a freshmen or a senior, the results have been absolutely pathetic and embarrassing.  Also, for the record I'm sick and tired of hearing about how young the team is.  I've been hearing this garbage for a decade now.

As far as I can tell, this coaching staff is not even close to getting these players prepared for games (and scouting reports at this level of baseball is an absolute joke and not worth the paper they are written on).  With these results he will not be recruiting higher talent until he can prove he can win with what he has.  Things better turn around before the end or the year or else their needs to be a change.  This is just plain unacceptable.

Someone explain to me why Logan Cozart doesn't hit anymore?  The whole pitching thing doesn't seem to be going too well.

Before Coach Smith, Cozart hit .301 in 83 At Bats.  .301 sounds amazing right now.

Coach Smith's Bobcats are 19-62 in a year and a half. That's a percentage worse than any major league team in modern history. I'd say let's see how the rest of the season plays out. I do not know him, he does have a nice background but it was as an assistant. Good luck to him but I hope the AD has a close eye on this.

I made my point. I want this coach and team to succeed. Treat others the way you would want to be treated. Good luck in the rest of the season.

This could be said about multiple players. It's hard for players to get in there and hit when their team hasn't won a game in 2 weeks and are down 7 runs in the first few innings. Clearly the pitching isn't working not only for Cozart and majority of the players or our team wouldn't be in the position they're in.
