ATHENS, Ohio -- Ohio Athletics announced today (May19) that the department will seek new leadership for its baseball program.

"I would like to thank Craig Moore for his dedication and contributions to our baseball program for the past 13 years," Cromer said. "We greatly appreciate everything he has done for Ohio Athletics and wish him and his family the best."

Moore spent the last four seasons as head coach of the Bobcats after previously serving as the interim head coach in 2021. He spent his first eight years in Athens as an assistant coach.

During his time as an assistant, Moore helped lead Ohio to two Mid-American Conference Tournament Championships and two NCAA Regional appearances.

In his tenure at the helm, five Bobcats were selected in the MLB First-Year Player draft, including Joe Rock (2021) and Rudy Rott (2019). Rock was a first-team All-MAC selection and earned a place on Collegiate Baseball's 2021 NCAA Division I All-American Second Team. Rott is the only two-time MAC Player of the Year in conference history. He was a third-team All-American by both Collegiate Baseball and ABCA and was a two-time first team All-MAC selection.

Since 2021, 33 Bobcats have earned Academic All-MAC recognition, while seven players garnered All-MAC postseason honors.

Ohio Athletics will conduct a national search to identify the next head coach.

Agreed. Too much prep talent in Ohio alone to have a program struggle as much as this one has over the past few years.

Several other Ohio programs are on the struggle bus and could use a leadership shakeup in my opinion but at least this one made the correct call.

Andrew See and Luke Howard are the youngest Carbone players still in college coaching that I know of. Not that either of them are particularly young, and not advocating for either to be the coach at OU, but more trying to confirm that information. It just seems weird how few went into coaching. However, it's not like there's much money in college baseball coaching.

I would love a coach eager to move up the ranks. I don't care if he's only here 2-3 years. Someone who sees OU as the school with arguably the best weather in the MAC, and some of the best weather in the Midwest. Recruit for the launching pad that is Bob Wren Stadium. Go schedule drivable, good games and get fans and players excited. Use fall team-building activities to improve the stadium.

I admit, I don't follow college baseball as much as I should. What should the timeline be to get a replacement in Athens? I have to think we need an urgent hire to try to keep some of the younger guys like Slanker and Ineich from transferring. I am unfamiliar with timelines for NCAA baseball portal activity.

I was not on board with moving See into the head job when Carbone retired. At that time we were way overdue for some change and I felt as if we needed to clean house and completely change the culture. It worked out with the 2015 and 2017 MACC.

This time around, I would support bringing See in (if he would even want it). After he left Athens, he went and worked for some major programs and is also a very good recruiter with a much bigger network at this point in his career. He's a smart guy and a players coach and knows the MAC well.

I'd also support bringing in a younger assistant from a major D1 program, preferably with a pitching background. Ideally a great recruiter and somebody who can raise funds.

Pitching needs to be a focal point IMO. We always seem to figure it out on offense but have been one of the worst in the country on the mound.

It begins...according to Kendall Rogers (big ncaab reporter) Slanker entered the portal. Says he'll be a hot commodity so I'm expecting an ACC or SEC type of move for him.

You are right, two tournament titles, which can’t be overlooked by any stretch of the but at least one of those was a very lackluster season.

Well of course See is the alum choice as there aren’t any others out there currently coaching who are remotely qualified. Luke Howard is at a tiny school and all other coaches are high school or coaching their kids.

I still don’t think it’s the right move, but maybe his story resembles Boals just enough to get him a chance.

Donuts- If Boals wasn't an Ohio alum, would he be coaching in Athens right now? Check his bio. His first two seasons he was 31-33 at Stony Brook, His last season he won 24 games. His overall win percentage at SB was .567 percent. We all know about his 3rd and 5th place finishes at Ohio. I actually wonder if he was not a Bobcat alum, if he would have been hired in Athens? Don't get me wrong, Boals is a great guy, but if he wasn't an Ohio alum, I question if he would be in Athens right now. It has been proven that Akron, Kent and Toledo have been better than Boals. However, this administration paid Boals the top salary in the league.

Boals would be coaching right now if he wasn’t an alum. He won a tournament game in this current contract cycle. It’s a ridiculous question to ask. You know this and don’t care. Can you just spell out why you hate the current administration so much so we can talk about it and move on?

Ouch but seemed nearly inevitable. Hard to imagine what our record would've been without him. I hope for his sake he goes right into the starting lineup.
